Researching the right equipment to mic our guitards we tried the Thomann’s t.bone Ovid System CC 1o0. Though we were skeptical about the performance of a 47 Euro small-capsule, clip condenser mic we soon had to change opinion: the CC 100 sounds great. Is a little “boomy” on low frequencies (but we still need to try a different positioning) while the cantini are crystal clear, anyway everything can be dealt with in post. Sure, you can get a better sound by using the usual “monster mics” whose cost is tenth times those of the CC100: does it really worth?
A trend is definitely emerging: as it already happened in the computer industry or in the photography realm, in the music hardware compartment it is no more necessary to buy premium brands to get more-than-adequate performance. A Leica will always be “the one” as is the Neumann U87. Nevertheless you can shoot brilliant photo with a Canon or Nikon point-and-shoot or obtain a very good recording with this little gem called CC100.
