The 30-pin Rode iXY micrphone for IOS is a very capable microphone with a major flaw: Apple does not allow it working via a lightning adapter. The result is that an excellent piece of equipment now is going to be trashed.
Wait, one may ask, why don’t you buy the new version? Why would you want to work with such an older microphone?
Well, firstly, because decades old condenser mics still work like a charm and so do amplifiers, instruments and pedals. Therefore, one do not need to buy them again because of their artificial end-of-life.
Secondly, because by investing substantial money in the very same hardware with a different connector do not guarantee that history will not keep re-repeating. In other words, there is no point in purchasing something that will stop working when Apple, Rode or whoever will decide that it will.
Thirdly, if one purchase a good, he is supposed to become its owner until it breaks. If somebody else can limit the exercise of the ownership right, than the agreement is about a temporary license and not a final purchase.
Conclusion: never purchase products that can be made not functional by marketing reason only.
